Talk
Talk #3 in the Generation 2 Generation series. We watched a video of a couple who has been married 51 years! Needless to say their bit of wisdom was related to marrying someone with similar values and your marriage will last. It was fun talking on marriage…a topic I know alot about (wink wink). All kidding aside…I took the authentic approach and was pretty open about my desire to be married one day and yet at the same time how scared I am to get married. I thought it was encouraging when I asked the students to standup if they still wanted t0 get married…95% stood up. Interesting how hope springs eternal in a culture that seems to begin a new attack on marriage every single day. After the talk I got some feedback from leaders that students thought I contradicted myself in the talk…highlighting in a story to start how I was attracted to a girls beauty and then I told them that the outside doesnt matter and to focus on the inside. I can definitely see how they came to this conclusion and I couldve been clearer with some things. I plan to revisit the convo next week.
Definitely a funny moment when the grandson of the seniors in our video realized it was going to be his grandparents this week, he didnt know they were going to be featured!
Volunteer Involvement
Another solid night with our volunteer team. My favorite part was when we did popcorn prayer before Wildfire…there was great participation and I appreciated so much prayer for me! It was also sweet to have a guy checking us out to potentially become a new small group leader…keep inviting them people!
Music/Program
Katelyn Bonn is a rockstar! Seriously she is an awesome girl. She filled in for Nick last night leading worship as he was resting from the Noah program this past Sunday. Kids seemed into it this week…which is awesome to see a couple week run where we arent struggling as much in this area. I especially liked “Came to My Rescue” still is a favorite of mine and seems to connect with the students each time. We showed the below video for our WiFi of a guy who painted a Mona Lisa with grease from burgers!
Final Thought
The year is rolling down which is always a bittersweet time. As a youth pastor you have to exist in two world simultaneously. It is important to celebrate the volunteers who have just served in your ministry the past 9 months…to slow down enough to acknowledge that their work was noticed and valued. At the exact same time you have to be thinking about the fall…about summer camp and the new group of students & leaders that you will be working with. So at the same time I have to be thanking and recruiting, saying goodbye and saying hello. Weird and hard to do both well. 4 more weeks…Ignite Nite in two.
