Returned my snapshot device from Progressive today.
I received my snapshot discount device in the mail a week ago and was very excited at the opportunity to save money on my car insurance. Since I’m a good driver I had no doubts I would earn a discount with it analyzing my driving. If you aren’t aware of how it works… basically you plug this thing into your diagnostic port and it sends data back to Progressive wirelessly. They tell you to keep it for 6 months but you can start receiving a discount after as little as a month. Your driving is analyzed mostly via braking and what time of day you drive. Each time you brake “hard” the device beeps three times to let you know that you aren’t doing so well. I didn’t think I braked hard…I still don’t…but I became so frustrated with how many times it was beeping that I returned it before even a month of data was collected. In fact if they didn’t charge you $50 if you fail to return it I would have thrown it out the window!
Have you tried the snapshot discount? Was your experience better than mine was?
