Appreciate thoughts from a warhorse...a partner in ministry that encouraged me many times when I thought about jumping ship myself before it was necessary.

I definitely agree there are some guys who aren't good and leave prematurely to get better pay, move closer to something or to avoid conflict...you know the "grass is greener" thing. My post however comes from knowing guys who I'm confident are on the right seat on the bus and know their limitations to influence change in overall direction of the church. As I have always said and painfully had to live out recently: those in vocational ministry need to know what God has gifted & called them to, find a place to fulfill that calling and use your gifts. Ideally this will be a place where you are resourced and encouraged in the way God wired you, however if that organization which is meant to support and resource you begins taking from you, discouraging you and preventing you from serving God well than its time to find a new place to fulfill your purpose. Some times the draining comes from being on the right seat and yet not being able to fulfill your purpose.

So your blog begs the question...are they "good" guys if they leave. Thought the good guys were the guys who hung in there when the going gets rough. Maybe we just have to define terms...perhaps it is one of those lost in translation things. In my experience, the guys who quit to do something easier or less stressful are typically not the right guys in the right seat on the bus. They may be on the right bus, just not doing the things they are truly gifted to do. If what you are doing does not recharge your batteries, but drains it, you are probably NOT doing the right thing. Because they are perceived to be gifted in a certain area (and arguably they would not be in the position if they weren't) that does NOT guarantee that they are doing what God wants them to do in the body. Anyway...thoughts from an old war horse...for what they are worth.

"Love like you've never been hurt" is a very courageous thing. I have very many 30 somethings around and in my life who are all single. Many have given up because of rejection and past hurt. Some have given up trying because many of the men In their age group have not been raised up to be men. It is rare to meet single men in their 30s who are serious about their faith, yet not legalistic and not taking advantage of God's grace.

I wish you the best. I will encourage those of all ages around me, including myself, to step out in faith this year and take a risk. It could prove to be fun.

Good post.

In Him,
Jean
