CYD,

Appreciate you very much reading my blog. Not sure if you are being sarcastic or serious so I will answer seriously. "Pulling the plug huh? Do you apply that to careers and couples relationships?" Most definitely I think there are times to "pull-the-plug" on a career or relationship...but not without alot of wisdom seeking, prayer and thoughtfulness. While our secular world often gives up too quickly on these things I think its the tendency of Christians to hold on too long.

Kurt,

Flexibility comes with maturing. You were right to cancel that study.

It might have been the content of the study. I have to admit I am not a big Warren fan for several reasons.

I am consistently being approached and my daughter who has a vintage store is consistenly being visited and approached by friends of all ages that we were acquainted with and taught in churches before who are desperate to find absolute truth being taught in the church today. They aren't bored, but have become almost to the point of apathetic to ever finding good teaching. I am not assuming that that is your group's attitude, but I know enough young people from churches today that want depth and absolute truth.

I have been a true believer for over 30 years. I was radically saved and I never turned back. You might liken my conversion to the Apostle Paul. I have attended churches, some for a decade or more and some for a few years each and in each one I was involved in both Women's ministry and Youth ministry. I found the young people to be ravenous for truth and honesty as most of them didn't have it lived out in their homes. My husbands and my Sunday School classes had to move because of the growth in just a year. That is all to Gods glory. We were just willing vessels.

Three years ago, due to an accident, I was not able to attend church. I can't tell you how many church websites I visited and how many pastors sermons I listened to searching for depth, truthfulness, and scripturally sound teaching. I want to say I was shocked in reading the leaderships profiles, but sadly to say I wasn't. The majority of leaders private lives were no different than the lost "moral and good" friends that I know. I found most ministries hadn't considered what the scripture says about holiness being a full time commitment--not just at church gatherings.

It was then that we happened onto GTY.org. It is Pastor John MacArthurs website. We began listening to his teachings and sermons and we have never ever grown so much in knowledge and intimacy with God. He confirms everything with the Word and not his opinion. I have since sent people to his site to truly learn what being a Christian is all about. I have never heard a negative response. My 18 year old nephew who is going into youth ministries said it is the most solid teaching he hears.

I would like to encourage you to look up the website and listen to a couple sermons. He does not mince words and you will not only feel refreshed after listening to him, you will feel full and challenged. I would highly recommend 'The Ugliness of Christmas.'. You might think it is about Christmas, but it isn't. It left us speechless and humbled. He also has bible studies and other resources. We listen to a sermon and have our study off of that with just discussion. It has proven to be more than enough.

I again applaud your desire to serve God and to learn from Him. Please do not take anything that I said with condemnation. It is not my purpose.

Blessings to you and your group,
Jean

Great blog Kurt...I think you nailed it. Have not seen the movie yet but will. But what I see where I live now in the youth around here is sad. Adventure in this town is destructive. Like to share this if OK. Let me know.
