Creative Marriage Propsal

Man the bar just keeps getting raised higher and higher for creative marriage propsals. Usually not into these sort of videos but thought this one was especially cool and was filmed in my second home Portland Oregon.

7yrs in Portland: What I’ve Learned #4

Here on my last full day living in Portland, I conclude this blog series on lessons that I learned while living 7 years out here.  I hope you have enjoyed them, as some of them were hard lessons to learn. I know the next chapter will have some challenging ones to learn as well…but I am hopeful for an upswing :)

  • If you ignore your own faith-walk it can quickly slip away.
  • People have many different expectations for Pastors – if you try to meet all of them you will fail.

7yrs in Portland: What I’ve Learned #3

My apartment is starting to look pretty bare…can’t believe I am now just a couple of days away now.  Here’s a couple more lessons I’ve learned while out here:

  • Ministry can become your entire life if you let it.
  • Doctors don’t know everything when it comes to your health.
  • Miracles are rare.

7yrs in Portland: What I’ve Learned #2

So this week I’ve decided to let you in on some lessons that I’ve learned during my time out here in the Wild Wild West.  Don’t expect them to be overly profound, they are just what came to mind when I reflected on my different experiences.

  • Time goes by really fast…reaaallly fast.
  • Old habits/patterns long gone can quickly return if you aren’t careful.
  • Relationships are hard and sadly many don’t last as long as you would like them to.

7yrs in Portland: What I’ve Learned.

Definitely a mix of emotions as I enter this final week living in Portland Oregon.  It has been a crazy adventure these past 7yrs years…nothing I could have ever dreamed up myself.  Been reminiscing lately…taking mental journeys back through all that I got to experience out here.  I’ve spent time writing down some of the lessons that I learned during this chapter and thought I would share them with you. I will share a couple each day until I head out on Thursday.

  • A lot changes outside of your control.
  • Vocational ministry will take more than you can give and return less than you need.
  • Relationships are the point of any programming.

One Month.

Crazy to think I have just one more month living in Portland.  There’s so much I hope to do and people I hope to see before the big move.  While I definitely will be back visiting PDX at least once a year (you cant rid of me completely!) I know things won’t be the same. Going to miss alot of people, places, food and memories made out here.

This week I’ve decided to do a little “tweet-series” sharing things I am going to miss from living out here. Follow along this week and look for my tweets with the hashtag: “#gonnamiss”

Sign Class for Homeless

Previously living in the Detroit area for 24 years I am always talking about how Portland is different. Believe it or not one of the differences is in the amount of homeless people.  Before moving here I can’t remember seeing people asking for $$$ in the suburbs with cardboard signs, yet to Portlanders this seems to be the “norm.” My friends and I have talked before that it seems like there’s a class somewhere on what to write on your sign to get the most $$$ out of peoples pockets. There seems to be lots of similarities between the signs; “I am a veteran, have kids, need a bus pass, no booze”…and most seem to end with; “God Bless.”  Every once and awhile you see a truly unique one, usually with a bit of the homeless persons own personality thrown into it.  Check out these signs;

(BTW – I dont think homelessness is funny…but these signs are and I think most of them are intended to make the reader laugh)
