My Prayer/Song

Most of you know in this season I’ve decided to attend City Bible Church (217 Campus) and I simply cannot tell you what a breath of fresh air it has been to attend church as just a “normal” guy. While I definitely think Sunset had much to do with my departure, one thing I fully own is that I had allowed Jesus to become far too small in my own life. I fell into an all-too common trap for those in ministry; what I did for God became more important than my identity of being His Son. This HAD to change…

The series for the summer at CBC has been called ALIVE: Reviving Your Spiritual Passion.  There couldn’t have been a better time for me to step into this community and be poured into.  One of the songs sung during the series; “Deeper” by PlanetShakers (I’m pretty sure it’s like the theme song for the series) reflects so well my prayer in this season of transition and of putting Jesus first again.  Check out the words and the song below.

I want you Jesus more than before…more of You, Jesus I want more. Take me deeper than I’ve been before.

Kyron Come Home

I’m sure most of you Portlanders who read my blog have heard the tragic story of young Kyron Horman going missing two weeks ago today.  Our church hosted a prayer vigil this past Tuesday night praying for a quick and safe return. If you are anything like me this story has grabbed your heart and brought to the surface the feeling of helplessness in these sort of situations.  Though the longer time passes the more the statistics forecast a negative outcome, as Christians we believe miracles can and do still happen. Would you take a moment out of your busy Friday and pray for Kyron’s safe return home?

Heavenly Father…you know where Kyron is right now and are more than able to bring him safely home. Would you please intervene in this situation and work a miracle? Show us your strength…your saving power over darkness. Bring him safely home to his family & friends.  Comfort those hurting and draw them to yourself in this tragic time.

 I ask these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.

My Prayer Today

“Dearest Lord, may I see you today and every day in the person of your sick, and, whilst nursing [pastoring] them, minister unto you. Though you hide yourself behind the unattractive disguise of the irritable, the exacting, the unreasonable, may I still recognize you, and say: “Jesus, my patient, how sweet it is to serve you.”

(Mother Teresa)

My Prayer For You

Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger men.
Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers;
pray for powers equal to your tasks.
Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you yourself shall be a miracle.
Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God.

                                                                           -Phillips Brooks

I think this quote is especially relevant as we face very uncertain economic times. Once again we have had the veneer ripped away that our world is a very fragile one, the security we once thought we had is wisp away.  So often our prayers are for God to make our lives easier and happier…however  He never promised us either….not yet.
